Develop the Millionaire Mindset
We all have our blocks with money, but the first way to knock down your blocks is to change your mindset.
There are two different mindsets when it comes to money. There’s a “Millionaire Mindset” and a “Scarcity Mindset”.
The person with a Scarcity Mindset believes there’s never enough money. Because of this, their thoughts stem from a place of lacking, believing they have to go without. They are envious of others who are abundant, and they give less of themselves to others.
The person with a Millionaire mindset will believe there’s enough money in the world. They know they will succeed and achieve their financial goals. They are happy when others are plentiful and believe money will be there when they need it. Because of this, they are giving and prosperous.
To have a Millionaire mindset, work on becoming abundant in your thoughts, and your actions will follow.
Be grateful for what you have
All the money in the world can not make you happy, thankful, or give you peace of mind. You must develop these on your own no matter what is going on in your life. Everyone has something they’re dealing with in their life. You and I are no different than the wealthy when it comes to this. We all have problems.
So, what do you have in your life that you appreciate? What are you thankful for? I encourage you to make a list of all those things that make you happy and are not monetary. Write out everything you can think of, and then take a look at your list. See all the things that enrich you and give you joy. If the list is short, what actions can you take to bring more genuine happiness for yourself?

For example I’m thankful for the relationships I have with my husband, my kids, and my friends. I’m grateful I’m healthy and safe. I appreciate my ability to think clearly, be creative, be open to others, and to have love and empathy. These are basic things, but they add up to so much more and have nothing to do with money.
Next, write down the things you’re grateful for that you’ve achieved with money. Do you have a steady job and bring home a paycheck? Do you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, food, transportation? Even if you have hot, running water, that’s an achievement over many people in the world. Be thankful for the things you have, rather than focusing on what you don’t have.
Change your self talk
Positive self talk is the next step to developing a positive mindset towards your money. What are the thoughts running through your head? Do you shame yourself? Do you negative talk? Do you use absolutes, such as ‘always’ or ‘never’? Do you talk to yourself about how much you hate money or the bad circumstances in your life.

Now think about positive thoughts you have about money. Are there any upbeat or forgiving words you give to yourself when it comes to money? Dig deep down and find the parts of yourself which reflect a positive money mind. Use your list of gratitude to start.
Become aware of your self talk and your thoughts. It is impossible to accomplish goals if you continue to tell yourself you can’t. With conscious effort, you can change your thoughts. This may sound cheesy, but once you change your thoughts, you will change your finances. Create your goals, tell yourself you can achieve them, and work towards what you want in life.
You do NOT need to keep up with The Joneses
In our age of social media and being constantly connected with what other people are doing in life, it’s easy to compare yourself.
You aren’t able to take that vacation, buy that new car, or have the means to go out all the time. It seems like everyone else has an exciting life. You need to eat, pay rent, provide yourself a way to get to and from work, and you don’t have much left over for anything else.
Social media is like going to a party. Everyone dresses up and puts their best self forward. You witness people having fun and living a great life, because that’s what they present. What you don’t see is their financial picture. That same person can have two mortgages, a couple car loans, a boat loan, credit card debt, and several tens of thousands in student loan debt.
That same person might be having marriage problems, may be in legal trouble, or having issues with their teenagers. You won’t see the sad, lonely, terrible, heartbreaking parts of their life on social media either.
If you try to stuff your feelings with material objects instead of appreciating your life and all the riches you already have, I guarantee you, you’ll be miserable. And you’ll be in more debt. Which will make you more miserable. See how that works?

Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t extend yourself beyond your financial capability. Don’t live beyond your means for the sake of looking a certain way to other people or compensating for feelings of need. If you think about it, you don’t need much to be happy.
Instead, look at the goals you want to achieve. Even if they are as small as paying off a credit card, or as big as buying a new home. Or maybe you just want to take a pottery class. Work toward the things in life that make you happy. You’d be surprised what you can accomplish when you focus on what you really want to achieve in your life.
Develop positive habits with your money
Your positive thoughts must lead to positive actions. This includes the habit of being careful with your money, budgeting, researching and investing wisely, and being patient to grow your money slowly.

Habits take time to develop, so be kind on yourself if you slip and go backwards. Keep trying and work to stay on track. Little by little, you may see your habits slowly change over time.
Achieving financial independence takes persistence. If you develop good habits, you’ll become financially successful over time, and start to feel comfortable and happy with your life.
