Great history on the use of the word "tomboy." In my readings, it seems to me words with negative connotation have been placed on women who act outside the norm of how women are supposed to behave in society.
That's how I came to name this publication "The Virago." It used to mean "a woman of masculine strength or spirit; a female warrior," and turned later into meaning "a domineering, violent, or bad-tempered woman." That's okay, we are all those things. We are okay with being who we are no matter what you label us!
