I was the same as you. When I first turned it on, the opening scene where she destroys a son of one of her victims during a court case, I had to turn it off. I was furious and unsettled watching that first scene because I know this can happen. It happens in the prison systems where a dying prisoner can't contact their family; they aren't allowed. It's inhumane. Anyway, I went to work and talked about the movie with my coworkers who are nurses and social workers, and they'd also watched the movie. They encouraged me to see it through, which I did. I mean it was an entertaining movie with a great cast. And she gets hers in the end. But, yeah. This stuff happens all the time, usually with family members. It's disgusting.
